Ohio River Valley Women’s Business Council (ORV-WBC)

Calling all women-owned businesses…it’s time to take your company to the next level and get certified. What is certification you ask? Certification can be a way to differentiate your company and gain a competitive advantage in your industry. For some, it may be an access point to government contracts or major corporations with diversity spend initiatives.

Nearly 1,000 women business owners from across the region have chosen to get certified through the Ohio River Valley Women’s Business Council (ORV-WBC), a non-profit organization with a mission to certify bona fide women-owned businesses. ORV~WBC is a program operated by the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati’s department of Business Development & Entrepreneurship under the authority of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC). ORV~WBC is one of 14 Regional Partner Organizations (RPOs) authorized to administer WBENC's world-class certification across the United States. WBENC and its RPOs also provide Women-Owned Small Business (WOSB) certification for the SBA WOSB Federal Contracting Program.

WBENC certification is an important marketing tool for expanding a company's visibility among decision makers in corporate supply chain diversity and procurement organizations, as well as federal government agencies. Focused on the CORE platform of Certification, Opportunities, Resources, and Engagement, ORV~WBC works with companies in Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia that are 51 percent owned, controlled, operated, and managed by a woman or women.

Is Certification Right for You? If you answer yes to these questions, then certification may be a great way to promote and grow your company.
  • Is your product or service targeted at corporations, retail, and or government agencies?
  • Does your business have the capacity to provide quality service and or products on large contracts?
  • Are you willing to share details of your business including capital investment, tax returns and compensation records?
