Jenell Walton joins ULGSO as VP of Marketing & Key Initiatives
Cincinnati – The Urban League of Greater Southwestern Ohio is pleased to announce its recent hire of Jenell Walton as Vice President of Marketing and Key Initiatives and member of our executive team, reporting to President & CEO Donna Jones Baker. Walton will be responsible for the development of ULGSO’s brand awareness, marketing, public relations, communications and community partnerships.
Walton is a seasoned communications leader and former journalist with 17 years’ experience covering the issues in Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio. Her time as an anchor at WCPO-TV 9 and reporter at WLWT News 5 and WDTN-TV 2 allowed her to see firsthand the successes and struggles of the region. She says her interviews with victims, residents, activists and law enforcement during the civil unrest in Over-the-Rhine in 2001gave her insight into the hearts, minds, and perspectives of all stakeholders.
“As a native Cincinnatian, I understand many of the nuisances that make the Queen City what it is today. I have interviewed people from all across the region, from the poor to the wealthy, to county, city and business leaders,” Walton said. “As a journalist, I always wanted to do ‘something more’ after sharing people’s pain, heartache, and joy with viewers. My new role at the Urban League now allows me to give back and help people break the cycle of poverty by working with business and community leaders.”
“Jenell’s desire to help others achieve economic well-being and social equality made her a perfect fit for the Urban League as we roll out our new 2020 strategic plan. Our goal over the next four years is to prepare individuals for in-demand jobs, create regional economic self-sufficiency and empower Urban Leaguers to contribute to our community,” Baker said. “Jenell’s journalism experience makes her a natural storyteller to share our successes, goals, and key initiatives with stakeholders and the entire community. I’m delighted she’s part of our team.”
