ULGSO President & CEO, Christie Kuhns, Esquire, was among the featured speakers at the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, August 18th, 2022. Christie was one of four distinguished women professionals who spoke at the panel discussion on the subject of politics and government, entitled ‘WE Speak: From Local Government to the Supreme Court, the Future is Female.’
The forum, presented by Johnson Investment Counselors, was moderated by Karen Henry, Academic Director of the Executive MBA Program at Xavier University in Cincinnati, was “designed to inspire, educate, and provide networking opportunities to women who lead while recognizing women leaders in our region.”
Attendees heard personal experiences, advice, and lessons learned from successful women leaders, and networked with fellow female professionals in the Cincinnati region with emphasis on how corporations, non-profits, and institutions including academia, intersect with the political and governmental sectors and how to navigate them, especially as females.
Ms. Kuhns, and the other speakers were specifically asked to engage attendees on the issues of stereotypes that prevent women from running for office at the same rate as men, how to support women interested in or already running for office, and how women can advance their political agendas with male counterparts and bring their unique voices into the sphere of public policy.
Panel speakers featured leaders who themselves have served at different levels and types of government service. They shared their experiences to help break stereotypes and encourage other women to consider public service careers. In Christie’s case, she is a former Ohio State Representative from the 32nd House District.
