Retired from the Dayton Urban League in 2008 after 14 years, the late former president and CEO, Willie Walker (February 6, 1942 - April 2, 2022), was a champion, an advocate, and a connector of people, whose work with the League ‘profoundly shaped’ the City of Dayton, according to his daughter, Teresa Walker.
Mr. Walker organized and facilitated a capital campaign that raised $3.5 million. This campaign resulted in the purchase of the former Fifth Street YMCA building, refurbished to house the Dayton Urban League offices.
Willie was also former president of the Ohio Council of Urban Leagues. He was a founding member of Parity 2000, an initiative to expand medical services to the historically underserved, also known as the Center for Healthy Communities.
