The State of Black Cincinnati

The Greater Cincinnati Urban League’s “The State of Black Cincinnati 2015: Two Cities,” commands urgent attention. Disproportionately high numbers of AfricanAmericans live lives of quiet desperation on society’s margins here, voiceless, isolated in dangerous, unhealthy, and poor communities. So much work remains.

The State of Black Dayton

In Dayton, [we] must grow more leaders from our upcoming generations, and prepare and assist them in assuming leadership roles where they can be in positions to make decisions, reach out to help others and create positive change. We need the help and support of businesses, banks, nonprofit organizations, philanthropic groups, government, local, state and national officials to move the needle in a positive direction.

The State of Black America

"It is, in every sense of the term, a plot to destroy democracy." 


The current anti-democratic wave began to rise after the 2008 election when Black voting rates matched white voting rates for the first time and helped propel Barack Obama to the White House. It crested in 2013 when the Supreme Court’s Shelby County v. Holder decision gutted the Voting Rights Act’s preclearance provision. And it broke against “The Big Lie,” the relentless campaign to sow doubt about the 2020 presidential campaign and illegitimately declare Donald Trump the winner.

Reclaim Your Vote

We want to thank you for showing up for your community and your country by voting in this year's midterm elections. Many of our freedoms were on the ballot this year, and thanks to voters like you, we were able to:

  • Secure women's reproductive rights in states across the country, including in the South
  • Block a number of election deniers from gaining seats in Congress, State Legislatures, and in election official roles
  • Ban slavery as a form of punishment in four states
